SALIMA ALI’s approach to sustainability and responsibility is a personal one, shaped by the genuine belief that your garments should be well-made and last for more than a season in your wardrobe, they can even be treated as special heirlooms passed down from generation to generation.
What is made to order?
Made to order is a production model that produces garments only once the order is placed. This is to ensure we produce only what is needed and through made to order the production runs are limited and exclusive to keep your garments unique and to the upmost quality. We have adopted this sustainable production model to reduce waste, and rather than create a demand, we serve the existing demand. The fashion industry remains a sector where production thrives with excessive volumes of garment manufacturing. Made to order is a method of manufacturing in which goods are only produced when they are required, rather than in large batches.
Most fashion companies produce large quantities of inventory, a practice that reduces the per-piece production cost but often leaves them saddled with excess product at the end of the season. This extra product is then put on sale, marked down repeatedly, and if consumers still won’t buy, it’s dumped in landfills or burned, adding significant pollution to our planet.
When you place an order with us, you aren’t getting an item that’s been sitting around poly-bagged in a warehouse for months. You’re getting a unique statement piece that was made specially for you in our London atelier, one garment at a time. We believe in a world of mass production handmade is a true luxury.
Why made to order?
Made to order is a true luxury experience and with our emphasis on craftsmanship, the made to order process enables us not only to ensure quality of each garment but also add a personalised touch, while reducing waste in the production process.
The benefit of buying a garment made to order is that you are contributing to a more ethical lifestyle. As the garment is made upon your order the possibilities to customise, or include alterations to cater to a wider range of inclusive sizing are endless.
At SALIMA.ALI not only do we embrace the made to order production model, to ensure quality in our production process but we also use quality fabrics and durable couture construction methods to finish your garments.
OUR MADE TO ORDER PROCESS
1) Order your is placed, you select your size or submit exact measurements and it is processed and scheduled for production.
2) Your order details are sent to atelier and the fabric & trims are ordered and prepared for your order.
3) Production in the atelier commences, your garment is cut and produced according to your selected style and size. (including any customisations)
5) Quality is checked throughout and the finishing touches and final hand-stitched details are perfected in the atelier.
6) Finally, your finished item/s are hung, pressed, wrapped and packaged securely.
7) Your parcel is now ready to be dispatched. At this point you will receive a shipping confirmation with tracking number, once the order has been sent.
8.) You receive your dream garment, and prepare to make a statement at your next event.
Overall the production and delivery process is completed within up to 14 days upon order confirmation. Once your order has been dispatched we will send you a notification email with your tracking number.
If you need your order to be made to a specific date/earlier than the lead time allows, please email info@salimaali.co.uk so that we can try our best if possible to meet it. Please note that express orders may be subject to an additional fee.
